Announcing Our New Video Blog!

You may have noticed that we’ve been a little quiet over here for the past month. First, we want to apologize to our regular readers!  Second, we’d love to announce the reason for our silence. We’ve been busily working to create a new video blog for our site! Here at MyBinding.com, we are the leaders in our industry for quality information. We don’t just sell our products, we use them, we know how they work. We have been working hard for the past few years creating videos to show you how our products work and to answer various questions we’ve received from our customers. While we’ve been working hard to design and film this content, our YouTube channel has grown from a few hundred videos to over 2000, with over 2.7 million views. Most recently, we became a YouTube partner.

But wait a minute. Should all our hard work go to YouTube glory alone? No, we decided it was time to give credit where credit is due. And so we came up with the idea of a videos blog, a place where our hard work and creativity can shine, a place where you can find all our excellent video content in a single place. Yes, there have been sporadic videos on this blog. Yes, our videos are on our product pages. And yes, all this content is on YouTube. But our videos were ready to strike out on their own and make their own way in this world. And so , we hope they will find happiness. But mostly we hope they will answer your questions and make your product decisions a little easier.

Chelsea here. I’ve been conducting interviews and writing these Printer Profiles for a few months now but none have left me giggling quite this much. In fact, I had several coworkers convinced I was goofing off at work while  I was doubled over my computer,  laughing so I hard I could barely breathe and thinking “This marketing guy is brilliant.” (You really should watch the video that had me cracking up – The Dance of the Internal Newsletter.) If you’ve been around #printchat at all, you have probably caught some of the humor that emanates from John Kublank at Wes-Tex Printing. Even the names of his photos (to the left, “I Moustache You a Question”) had me chuckling.  Keep reading to learn a little bit more about John and the company that supports his antics.

So, looking over your LinkedIn profile, it looks like you are more on the marketing side of things. Did something specifically draw you to the print industry?

MasterBind – A New Way to Bind

The most popular binding styles have been around for many years. You’ve probably heard of plastic comb binding, spiral coil binding, wire binding, and even thermal binding.  But if you’re looking for a highly professional finished product, MasterBind is an excellent option.

Looking Ahead with Xyron

If you’re a crafter of any sorts, you’ve probably heard the name Xyron and may even own a few of their products. Personally, I (Chelsea) loved Xyron products even before I came to work for MyBinding.com. So when Tarragon and I had the chance to chat with Corey Hoff, our company’s Xyron representative, needless to say I was a bit excited. Even better, he brought samples for us to play with: a miniature disposable “X”,  Teresa Collins Mega Runner, unique glue stick, three new products that had my immediate attention.

Corey has been with Xyron for over six years. The company started in 1996 and was purchased by Esselte in 2003, joining other top brands such as Oxford, Pendaflex, and Ampad. Unlike many retailers, their reps are split by the type of product rather than region. For Corey, that means he mainly sells professional equipment. The result is a sales force better trained on the products they actually sell, allowing them to become the experts. Even so, Corey didn’t hesitate to answer our questions about a variety of items, as MyBinding sits somewhere in the middle of the professional/craft distinctions.

Ponderings in Graphic Design

Today’s post is written by Toni Boudreault, Head of Graphic Design for MyBinding.com.
Toni-blog-picEach month at MyBinding.com, we produce at least one Promo Flyer and one series of Coupons, both of which feature assorted equipment, supplies and special price reductions. In months like November and December we are faced with creating additional promotions for Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Year End Clearances. These web postings are accompanied by a series of Email blasts to our clients informing them of the savings opportunities being offered. As the Graphic Designer responsible for their production, the real trick is to make all of these as visually engaging as possible, encouraging visitors to stick around and surf our site. Push all those pixels until they’re pretty!

There are so many websites vying for attention that a thoughtless, cookie-cutter approach such as simply plunking some photos on a grid with some color, a gradient here and there, and product specs would be an epic fail. Poorly designed graphics have the potential to actually repel traffic (ever noticed all the awful signage on Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway? Eww!), therefore these projects cannot be thrown together without strongly considering the power of good aesthetics. This is especially important because these postings become our main page, in essence our identity, for days at a time.
