Increasing Productivity with Shortcut Keys

Working in a fast-paced marketing environment, sometimes every minute literally does count. Whether you or your team are rushing to meet a deadline or you’re just trying to squeeze the most value out of a dollar, knowing how to work at maximum efficiency is imperative.

Since a large majority of business is conducted via the PC, I thought I’d share some of my favorite shortcuts for navigating the in and outs of computer software. And while some of these tips may be old news to some, others will wonder how they’ve been missing out on these time-saving functions.

The Customer is Always Right, Sometimes

I recently had a number of large packages shipped to me by freight. Since the packages were coming on a semi-truck, I decided to have them shipped to a nearby commercial building and avoid the hassle of a huge truck navigating the extremely narrow streets of my residential address. I cleared this with the shipping company, and they assured me it wouldn’t be a problem and was something they actually do often. They just needed me to receive the package in person. It would be arriving on Friday afternoon, and they would call me a half hour before its arrival.

Friday afternoon comes, and I get a voice mail on my phone. It’s the driver. He says he’s been waiting for me at the building, and now he’s leaving.

How to Get Your Kids to Pick up After Themselves

An age-old parenting battle is getting kids to clean up their toys and deciding appropriate discipline when they don’t. Once again, Tarragon and Chelsea have created a craft designed to remove the battle and focus on the fun. A rapidly circulating idea is the Ransom Chore Box, wherein one places toys that have been left out to be returned only upon the completion of a chore. So if we were picking up the toys anyway, why not get a chore out of our kids to get it back? It made total sense to us.

Make the Sale, Win the Customer–All For A Dollar!

My wife and I recently sat down with a Realtor. As first-time home buyers, we legitimately had no idea what we were getting into. The two things we did know were that not only is buying a home a big decision, it should also be an informed one. Consequently, we talked a lot of details in that initial meeting–too much to even begin to remember. That’s why I’m glad our Realtor had the foresight to anticipate our needs with the simplest (and cheapest!) of solutions.
