Three Ways to Bind Thick Documents

Producing thick documents can be challenging for a number of reasons. First, producing lengthy documents takes time and it can use up a lot of supplies. Second, it can be difficult to know which binding method to use. Here are three that can help you out:

  • Screw posts are ideal for thick documents. These supplies can be up to 5” long and you don’t need any special equipment to use them as long as you have a hole punch and a flat-head screwdriver. Make sure you securely fasten the screws after you slide them through the holes in your document. This secures the binding.
  • Depending on your comb binding machine’s binding capacity, you may be able to use it for those thick documents. A lot of devices can handle 2” combs that can bind 425 pages. Consult your machine’s instruction manual to find out if it’s compatible with larger combs.
  • If you have a VeloBind machine, chances are you can use it to bind your longer documents. Some VeloBind devices will work with supplies that can bind work containing up to 750 pages. Just remember that it can be difficult to edit documents bound with VeloBind strips, so make sure your work is perfect before binding it.

Three Ways to Bind Legal-Sized Documents

Have you ever needed to bind legal-sized documents and wondered how to go about it? If so, you will be glad to know that there are several ways you can do so and you can probably use the machine you already have. Here are three ways you can bind legal-sized documents:

  • If you have a comb binding machine, you may be able to use it for your legal-sized documents. Your machine will need to have disengageable dies and an open throat, however. (These features will help you produce the right hole pattern.) And you will need to use combs that are 14” long unless you are binding on the 11” side of the paper.
  • Does your document require a secure binding? If so, warm up your VeloBind machine because you can use 14” strips to bind your document. Be sure to thoroughly proofread your work before binding since it will be difficult to edit later on.
  • Finally, if you don’t want to use a binding machine, you can use screw posts. Just punch holes in your document and insert the screw posts into the holes. Secure the posts with a flat-head screwdriver to finish things off. If you need to edit your document after binding, just loosen the screws to add and remove pages.
